There have been several concerns raised in intimate relationships regarding period sex especially from women who experience an increased feeling of congestion in the pelvic area during the moment becoming sensitive and sexually aroused than other times of the month but have to forego sex while menstruating because some men find the idea repulsive and immoral.

In most parts of Ghana where religion and traditions are observed keenly, it is easy to see period sex as an act which has spiritual connotations with the verse Leviticus 15:19-22 often cited: “When a woman has her regular flow of blood, the impurity of her monthly period will last for seven days, and anyone who touches her will be unclean till evening.”

Research has shown that having sex during menstruation could be beneficial to women because during this period, orgasms release endorphins, good feeling hormones like oxytocin and dopamine which tame migraines and soothe period related symptoms, such as cramps.

It is also advised that, couples should practice safe sex during menstruation because of infections risk such as HIV, yeast infection, urinary tract infections and other transmitted diseases since the virus may be present in the menstrual blood as the cervix opens slightly which might allow viruses to pass through prompting doctors to strongly encourage condom during the period to reduce risk.

To men, periods are not dirty or disgusting as you might consider it, it a natural occurrence which is part of a woman’s life and it’s just a blood not a toxic substance that would deform you. A woman happily gets your fluid in her any way. How would you feel if she is not comfortable with yours being in her?
