Former Minister of Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has officially picked nomination forms to contest the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries slated for January 2026.

Dr Adutwum, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe in the Ashanti Region, is among three aspirants who have picked forms to enter the race for the NPP’s presidential candidacy.

The Minister, who served under the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo–Bawumia administration, is seeking to lead the party into the 2028 general election.

Dr Adutwum, widely credited with expanding science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and rolling out new senior high schools during President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s tenure, told journalists he was confident his track record would resonate with both party members and voters.

“We need a leader who understands how to transform our economy through education, innovation and job creation,” he said.

The race Dr Adutwum has entered has former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former MP for Assin Central, the vociferous Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong and former Minister of Agric and MP for Abetifi, Dr Byran Acheampong.
