With lifeline given presidential aspirants to amend their nomination papers and make submission by close of work today, lenses have been focused on the Electoral Commission (EC) premises to see which aspirants have made stops.
Akua Donkor of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) made a brief stop at the EC head office before exiting although it did not appear she was equipped to amend her form.
The Independent People’s Party’s (IPP) Kofi Percival Apaloo also made a stop at the EC office earlier in the day in apparent high spirts singing to himself, perhaps delighted at being given a second chance at the presidency.
Apaloo among other reasons was disqualified when he failed to convert the filing fee of 50,000 cedis to bankers draft as directed by the commission rather packing part of the sum in a bag to the EC office.
Nana Agyenim Boateng of the United Front Party, also made a stop at the EC office but swiftly exited the premises.
The United Progressive Party’s (UPP), Akwasi Addai Odike has the unique case of being the only candidate who was not vetted and hence given some time to resolve the litigation case involving his good self and party members which the High Court was hearing.
EC Chair, Charlotte Osei had on the disqualification day informed Mr. Odike to resolve the legal tussle and as Mr. Odike rightly points out he’s not been officially written to about his status in the race so was in to have clarity.
Head of the National Peace Council, Rev Prof Emmanuel Asante was spotted heading for the office of Madam Osei but not before submitting he had concerns he needed to gain clarity on from the commission’s head.
The Electoral Commission executives are yet to activate a session to receive the nomination papers of those whose sorted out their corrections while the clock runs down to 5pm.
