Akuffo-Addo appoints Kweku Awortwi as new board chair for VRA

Former CEO of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Kweku Awortwi has been appointed Chairman of the state-owned power producer’s board.

The eight-member board which was inaugurated on Monday, October 2 comprise Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, Richard Obeng Okrah, Dr Joyce Rosalind Aryee, Nana Kobina Nketsia, El-Farouk Umar, Musah Badimsugru Adam and Janet Anane.

Mr Awortwi the newly appointed Chairman of the VRA board has been the principal of the Africa Power Systems Management since July 2014 until his appointment.

He was the CEO of VRA from June 2009 – December 2013 (4 years 7 months)

Mr Awortwi also served as Managing Director of Strategic Planning and New Business Development at Ashanti Goldfields Co. Ltd and Manager of Business Planning and Analysis at Kaiser Aluminium & Chemical Corporation.  He is a trained Electrical Engineer and has worked for GE/RCA and ITT.

He holds B.Sc. degree from Yale University and an M.B.A. from Stanford's Graduate School of Business.
