The President has officially launched the restoration of the trainee-nurses allowance.

Addressing the gathering at the ceremony, Nana Akufo-Addo said for the 2017/2018 academic year, effective September, 2017, fifty-eight thousand health trainees, comprising nurses and midwives, will be paid their allowances of four hundred Ghana Cedis. This means Government will spend a total of 232,000,00 Ghana Cedis for this academic year.

In fulfilment of NPP's campaign promise of restoring trainee allowances scraped by the former government, President Akufo-Addo restored the allowances with the Student Trust Fund in charge of the disbursement.

The President said arguments from critics that the system cannot be sustained are unfounded because a robust management system is in place to sustain it.

He disclosed within the short space of 9 months, Government has employed some 16,000 qualified young nurses and midwives and other health professionals, who, though qualified, had not found employment over the last few years.
