The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to disband the Invincible Forces, a vigilante group of the New Patriotic Party, immediately.

Speaking on News File on Joy FM on Saturday, Ablakwa said Akufo-Addo was a reputable human rights and constitutional lawyer who must not allow the activities of the group to continue.

He said the group had become notorious for seizing public offices and meting out brutality to some members of the public.

The MP was commenting on accusations that the Invincible Forces indirectly contributed to the death of 20 people and injuring of many others at the Kintampo Waterfalls on Sunday.

Critics of the group argue that if it had not taken control of the tourism site after the NPP secured victory in the 2016 elections, the professionals who used to run the place would have taken the precautions necessary to preserve the lives of tourists.

The Kintampo disaster occurred when a tree displaced by a storm fell on people who were swimming at the base of the waterfall, killing 20 and injured many others.

Fifteen of those killed were students of the Wenchi Senior High School.

Stressing that the accident was a terrible one, Ablakwa called for trauma therapy for the students of the Wenchi SHS, especially survivors of the disaster.

He expressed fear that the disaster would impact tourism in the country negatively and displace it as Ghana's fourth biggest foreign exchange earner.

Ablakwa, a deputy education minister in the erstwhile Mahama administration, said there was an urgent need for Ghana to send a message to the international tourism community that the country remains a strong brand.

He also called for an immediate safety audit of all tourist sites in the country as part of measures to prevent another disaster from occurring.

He reiterated his call for the Invincible Forces to be disbanded, saying: "We don't need them."

"Invincible Forces remain a threat to every facet of our lives," he said.
