New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will not declare his assets before he files his nomination form to contest in the December 7 general elections, acting General Secretary of the party John Boadu.

Speaking on Class FM's Executive Breakfast Show Thursday, Mr Boadu said "the flagbearer of the NPP will file his tax returns but won't declare his assets".

The EC in a final reminder on nominations on Wednesday told presidential and parliamentary nominees that they will not be eligible to contest the elections if they do not declare their assets with the Auditor General.

"Candidates are to take note of the requirement to declare their assets to the Auditor-General in order to meet the eligibility criteria", part of the statement read.

Despite the directive, only the flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has come out publicly to confirm the declaration of his assets to the Auditor General with President John Mahama also declaring his assets on the assumption of office.

But according to the acting NPP General Secretary who is also the National Organiser, "the law that EC is basing on relates to public officials only and [since] Nana Addo is not a public officer", it does not apply to him.

"If you are a public officer, you have no option but to declare your assets", he added.
