Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has ordered Parliamentary Committees to hold all meetings and consultations with stakeholders within Accra.

That he said, would avoid the issue of facilitation and other expenses incurred by stakeholders when the meetings are done outside the capital.

The directive comes at a time when the legislature faces severe public criticisms over some bribery scandals. The most recent is the National Lottery Bribery(NLA) saga where an amount of GHC150,000 was reported to have been given by the Authority to the finance committee of the previous Parliament to "push" the passage of amendments to the lottery act.

The NLA said the amount was to facilitate a workshop held at Senchi in the Eastern Region for  members of the committee on the amendments.

My Kyei Mensa Bonsu on the floor of the house said "All meeting must henceforth be held within the confines of the Parliament House to avoid the issues of bribery surrounding the house. All stakeholder consultations must be within the precincts of Parliament,"

Meanwhile the Speaker has tasked the leadership to within a week, come out with proposals to deal with bribery in Parliament.

"I trust that in a week we should have some directive, some common position on which we can act on the matter. No one is sleeping over it at all. All parliaments’ issues must be seriously examined,” he stated.
