The flag bearer of the All Peoples Congress (APC) Hassan Ayariga has asked the Electoral Commission (EC) to withdraw the rejection letter and extend him an opportunity to address the concerns raised by the EC.

This will afford him an opportunity to explain his side of the case or in the alternative provide two new subscribers in place of those challenged.

Hassan Ayariga issued the letter through his lawyers Logan and Associates. Lawyers for Ayariga argue that the commission exercised its discretion wrongfully when it failed to inquire into the subscriptions made by the subscribers on his presidential forms.

The lawyers argue that the commission is mandated to inquire into the circumstances surrounding the subscription by his subscribers.

This will enable the EC to determine whether his subscribers predated that of the other presidential candidate that the EC cites for his disqualification. In their opinion it will be unjust to disqualify him from contesting this year’s presidential elections without any proof his culpability.

Furthermore, the commission breached its own rules under CI 94 when they failed to offer him an opportunity to make amendments to his forms.

Ayariga, will not be the first to petition the EC. Former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings on Tuesday issued a similar letter to the EC through her lawyers Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah.

Dr. Papa Kwesi Ndoum also threatened to sue the EC if he’s not given the opportunity to meet the EC for five minutes. Our checks, at the EC reveal that the Dr. Ndoum met the Chairperson earlier today. However, the EC has not issued any statement on whether they will rescind his disqualification.
