NDC Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has described the apology rendered by George Ayisi Boateng over his partisan comments as insincere and not convincing enough.

He explained that the apology given by the high commissioner came about after immense pressure from several groups and individuals and a public outcry against his comments and as such was not a true reflection of how he regrets the issue.

Okudzeto Ablakwa noted that “even after 48 hours when he had the opportunity to reflect, he said he had done nothing wrong and he remained proud… From what we hear, he was summoned to the Flagstaff House and he appears to have been compelled to issue this apology letter, which has come late in the day.”

The MP for North Tongu stated that minority would meet on Thursday to discuss all the circumstances and convey their decision on the issue to the general public afterward.

George Ayisi Boateng, Ghana's high commissioner to South Africa apologized to Ghanaians for publicly declaring his bias towards NPP members at a student gathering in Kumasi over the weekend.

His earlier comments sparked public disapproval as well as several calls for his dismissal as high commissioner, among which Okudzeto Ablakwa called for his resignation and an apology to the people of Ghana.

Describing Ayisi Boateng's comments as unacceptable and unconstitutional, the minority in Parliament stated that if the President does not act, they will be forced to resort to standing orders of parliament and file a number of processes against the SA commissioner.
