National Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Kofi Adams, has cautioned Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to desist from making any further comments about his presidential ambition and instead allow ongoing healing process among party members to go on without interruption.

Mr. Bagbin, who was speaking to party members in Wa over the weekend,  declared his intention to seek the party’s flagbearership position, insisting he is the best qualified person to lead the party due to the mentoring role he provided to President Nana Akufo-Addo and John Mahama, during their time in parliament.

Mr. Mahama, whose attempt to secure a second term was unsuccessful after he was heavily defeated at the polls in 2016, is yet to declare his intention but there are serious moves to get him to represent the  party for 2020 elections.

Former Chancellor of University of Professional Studies-UPS, Professor Joshua Alabi is another candidate whose name has come up as being interested in the seat, though he is yet to publicly declare his intention.

The party is however yet to open nominations because that will come after nationwide elections at the various branches and constituencies- and subsequent opening of nominations for various positions.

Mr. Adams told Accra based JoyFm the party’s focus at this time is to party members have been consulted in the process to finding a resolution as to why they lost.

“Our focus should be the healing we have just began and soon as we are done, we get executive at the various branches and guidelines will be drawn for the elections.”

According to him, claim of mentoring a former President the current one is not enough for one to become  president, though he acknowledged the qualities of the Nadowli West MP when it comes to leadership role in parliament and the NDC.

Mr. Adams therefore advised him to ensure he attends meeting at the various branches, interact with the structures and ensure cordiality transpires at the  lower level.
