Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has left Accra for Tamale to visit victims of the torrential downpour that flooded large areas of the Tamale metropolis.

The rain which lasted for about two hours claimed two lives, destroyed property running into millions of cedis and displaced many families.

The deceased have been identified as Hajia Fati Bapuni,59,  and a basic school pupil.

Head of the NADMO regional office Alhaji Abdallah Hindu says the organization is collecting data on victims and the extent of damage caused to property, to the National Headquarters for relief items to be brought in.

Even though an official assessment is yet to be carried out to establish the cause of the floods, it is believed that poor drainage played a significant role.

The visit of the Vice President will afford him the opportunity to see first hand the damage caused by the heavy downpour in the metropolis.
