President John Mahama has launched the braille version of the 2016 manifesto of his National Democratic Congress (NDC) at a ceremony at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra on Monday.

Addressing the gathering, President Mahama said the decision to produce the braille version of the NDC's manifesto was born out of the party's commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of Persons With Disability (PWDs) in particular and the less privileged in general.

“The NDC has always led the way in championing the cause of the disabled. We believe that disability is not inability,” he stated.

Minister of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs, Dr Henry Seidu Danaa a visually impaired and the first PWD to be named a minister who demonstrated the use of the braille manifesto, lauded the launch saying, “The launch marks another milestone because it indicates clearly the way forward in the actualisation of the social democratic principles of the NDC".

The move by the NDC, it must be noted, is the first time any political party has issued a braille version of its manifesto.
