The people of the Mamprusi Kingdom in the Northern region have been asked not to allow ethnic sentiments to guide their choice of casting their ballots going into this year's elections.

Speaking at the forecourt of the Naayili Palace at Nalerigu Wednesday on the last leg of his campaign tour titled "Accounting to the People",  President John Mahama made an explicit appeal to the chiefs and people in the area to reject the vice presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia - who happens to be of the Mamprusi stalk.

Mr. Mahama entreated the Mamprugu Kingdom not to allow tribalism be a reasonable ground for them to vote for Dr. Bawumia, instead they should look at social interventions and massive relief projects executed by the NDC administration.

Quoting a Mampruli proverb, President Mahama said "ka ban duia ni so nye yi mania" loosely translated to mean that “a brother is not necessarily a person with who you share the same womb with”, clearly suggesting that Dr. Bawumia who hails from the area may not be the right person to better the lot of the people of the Mamprusi kingdom.

Responding to a host of requests made by the chief of Mamprusi, Naa Mahami Bohagu Cheriga, President Mahama thanked the people for the hearty welcome and assured him of government’s commitment to elevate the plight of the people.
