The Chairman of the National Peace Council says the petition by a group calling itself concerned staff of the Electoral Commission for the impeachment of the Chairperson Charlotte Osei will have a wider implication for the country if not addressed tactically.

Rev. Prof Emmanuel Asante wants an open dialogue to settle the emerging issues because a united EC is needed to conduct elections for the strengthening of the country’s democracy.

Speaking on JoyFm he said, “we need an Electoral Commission that is united therefore no matter what the problems are they must find ways and means of addressing these kinds of issues.”

Some concern workers of the EC have petitioned the Presidency, asking for a full-scale investigation into some alleged misconduct and fraud on the part of the Chairperson of the Commission Charlotte Osei. The Presidency has confirmed receiving the said petition by the aggrieved workers.

In a personal statement, the EC Chair has described the contents of the petitions as frivolous, baseless and motivated by malice and ill will, adding that the allegations in her view, are nothing but a product of an overactive evil imagination, and do not deserve any serious attention. He stated her response is ready to address the said allegations raised against her.

Rev. Asante said appropriates steps should be taken to avert the escalation of the situation to destructive levels, which will have dire consequences of the country's democratic dispensation.
