The Head of Communications at the Electoral Commission (EC), Eric Dzapkasu has stated that the commission has restrained itself from conducting presidential ballot placement due to suits slapped on it by aggrieved presidential aspirants who want to be reinstated as eligible candidates.

Speaking on Kasapa FM today, Mr. Dzakpasu stated the normal practice has been to conduct balloting for the presidential aspirants as well as the parliamentary candidates but the commission has had to rank only the parliamentary candidates pending the ruling of the court.
“Normally the practice has been that when parties ballot for positions for the Presidential slot, it ultimately affects the parliamentary as well, but in view of the court cases we can’t hold the ballot for Presidential now. We’ll conduct the parliamentary balloting first and put a hold on the Presidential ballot pending the final determination of Supreme court on the legal issues affecting the Presidential slot.”
