The General Secretary of Awutu-Senya East constituency of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Michael Yaw Mensah, has alleged they have identified about 17 names of registered members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) who have been contracted by the Electoral Commission (EC) as presiding officers.

The opposition party in effect has threatened to prevent these individuals from getting near to any electoral materials on election day if the Electoral Commission flops to withdraw them as officers for the presidential and parliamentary elections.

Addressing a press conference later yesterday, Michael Yaw Mensah alleged that the ruling NDC has imbedded its card bearing members at the EC to work as presiding officers. According to Michael Yaw Mensah, ‘’their main agenda is to frustrate voters and rig the elections in favour of NDC. In Awutu/Senya East, we have been able to fish out 17 of these rented presiding officers.

The list of dishonest presiding officers includes the wives and concubines of elected NDC officers…We all entreat all political parties in all the other constituencies to cross check the list of proposed EC workers with keen interest. We have petitioned the EC and the law demands the EC to drop them with alacrity. We dare to state that should the EC fail in its duty to ensure sanity, will not allow any one of them to get closer to EC materials as officer on the day of election. Trust us to deliver.’’

Michael Yaw Mensah also said the incumbent NDC has connived   with the EC to send ‘’objectionable Biometric Verification Device machines to Kasoa for use on election day. These machines will be made to stop working.’’

He also claimed that a meeting was held at the residence of the MCE with some security officers and chiefs in the constituency and agreed to ‘’import some unknown NDC foot soldiers into Kasoa. The foot soldiers he noted will be clad in military regalia and made to patrol the constituency all alone without the police who are versed in the terrain.

‘’These unlawful fake soldiers will be made to arrest and brutalize opinion leaders and NPP agents at our strongholds. This they expect to undertake in order to scare voters and reduce votes in our strong holds,’’

They are therefore calling  on the National Peace Council, Chief Imam Christian Council and other relevant bodies to intervene and address the issues before it manifest.
