The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) distrust of the Electoral Commission (EC) has once again been manifested thanks to its Ashanti Regional Secretary, Samuel Pyne.
Mr. Pyne is of the conviction that the EC targeted its supports while heeding the call by the Supreme Court that National Health Insurance (NHIS) registrants be deleted from the register.
He stressed even supporters who had not registered with the NHIS cards were eliminated including constituency executives of the party.
Appearing on NEAT FM’s 'Ghana Montie' show to respond Mr. Pyn’s allegation, Head of Communications for the EC, Eric Kofi Dzakpasu stated “the EC has not deleted any NPP supporters from the register.
“How possible can the EC know that this person in the register is party A or party B. So can all of us at the commission go one way to delete only NPP members in the register? There’s no truth in the allegation,†he declared.
The Supreme Court had directed 56,772 NHIS registrants be deleted from the voters’ register after an Abu Ramadan petition supported by the NPP groups but it now appears the EC in carrying out that order is also not going down well with party.
The EC on Monday July 18, 2016 began an exhibition and re-registration of voters who used the NHIS cards as a form of national identity to register ahead of the 2012 general elections.
