The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced vacancies in electoral areas and unit committees across all sixteen regions of the country, setting the stage for by-elections in various localities.

According to an official release, the vacancies have arisen in a wide range of districts and municipal assemblies, covering hundreds of polling stations from the Western to the Upper East Region. The EC said the exercise is part of efforts to ensure effective local representation and restore full functionality to electoral areas that have lost members through resignation, death, or disqualification.

The updated list, which spans over 3,000 unit and electoral area positions, highlights communities across regions such as Greater Accra, Ashanti, Eastern, Central, Northern, Volta, and Bono where new by-elections will be conducted.

The Commission noted that these local level elections are essential to maintaining grassroots participation in governance and enabling assembly members and unit committee representatives to carry out their civic duties effectively.

Regional and district offices of the EC are expected to coordinate with local authorities and political parties to set timelines for the by-elections and ensure that the process is conducted smoothly and transparently.

The EC assured the public of its readiness to deliver credible and peaceful elections at all affected locations, urging communities to participate actively when the polls are held.
