Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Percival Kofi Akpaloo, has been released eight days after he was arrested.
Akpaloo was arrested on September 3, 2025, over allegations of financial crimes, including fraud, causing financial loss to the state, dissipation of public funds, and money laundering.
Upon his release on Thursday, September 11, 2025, Kofi Akpaloo told journalists that his arrest and detention were politically motivated.
“They [EOCO] say they are conducting investigations. But it is politics as usual. My arrest and detention were due to my recent utterances about the government,” he said.
Akpaloo had been granted police bail with conditions, including a GH¢10 million bond with two sureties to be justified.
However, he remained in custody until Thursday after he was unable to meet the bail conditions.
