Private legal practitioner and communications member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edudzi Tamekloe, has stated that it will be best if the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, resigns from office and scout for a new way to salvage the current state of the country’s economy.
He said that Ghanaians should not expect any new ideas from the Minister of Finance and his team in the 2022 budget.
"So it will even be good that our Finance Minister will resign and possibly allow somebody else, if the person exists within the NPP stock, to try and salvage the economy where it is.
"Because they have told us and they have demonstrated from 2017 till date that their make, when it comes to economic management, is nothing spectacular but hardships, pain and regrets. That is the scorecard when it comes to the economic management headed by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he said.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana, the NDC communicator said that currently, the critical indicators that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) while in opposition used against the NDC have all shown that the NPP administration has done a poor job when it comes to managing the economy.
"Between fuel price and the exchange rates, Ghanaians are wondering which one of them will break the eight first. Because as we speak, fuel is at GH₵6.90 with just ₵1.01, fuel will be breaking the eight ahead of the US dollar and cedi exchange rate," he said.

Edudzi Tamekloe stated that fuel prices and exchange rates in Ghana were the primary focus of the governing New Patriotic Party during their 2016 campaign.
He indicated that since the NPP administration assumed office in 2017, the dollar-cedi exchange rates have also risen from about ₵ 4 to almost ₵6.2 within the past few years.
According to him, the poor management of the country’s exchange rates by the economic management team which is headed by the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is reflected in the hardship that Ghanaians are currently going through.
