GH¢5.26 million blown on Ghana@60 celebration

Deputy Minister of Finance, Kwaku Kwarteng, has revealed to Parliament that the Ministry of Finance released GH¢5.26 million towards the celebration, adding the disbursement comprised GH¢3.1 million from the government sources of funding and GH¢2.16 from the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).

According to the Deputy Minister, activities for the celebration included an Independence Day parade, lectures, I pledge campaign, the Jubilee Youth Entrepreneur Challenge, the legacy project to provide insight into the country's leaders, and relay torch for all regions.

Mr Kweku Kwarteng said out of the GH¢5.26 million, GH¢3.0 million went to the Office of the Chief of Staff at the Ghana@60 Secretariat while GH¢100,000 and GH¢2.16 million went to the 10 Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs) and 216 District Assemblies respectively.

Responding to questions by the Juaboso Member of Parliament, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh on how much the country had spent so far on the 60th Independence Anniversary Celebration, the  deputy minister said the actual disbursements, according to the Office of Chief of Staff, indicated that an amount of GH¢2.98 million was spent by the 10 RCCs bringing the total expenditure to GH¢5.24 million of the GH¢5.26 million released.
