The Government of Ghana has expressed deep concern over what it describes as an unprovoked Israeli attack on the sovereign State of Qatar, which has resulted in casualties and destruction of property.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, September 10, 2925, Ghana strongly condemned the airstrikes, describing them as a violation of international law and an affront to Qatar’s sovereignty.

“The attack undermines ongoing pursuit of peace between the State of Palestine and Israel,” the statement added

President John Dramani Mahama, on behalf of the people of Ghana, expressed solidarity with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the people of Qatar “in these difficult times.”

The government commended Qatar for what it called a “tireless and impressive commitment” to advancing negotiations aimed at resolving the long-running conflict between Israel and Palestine. It further urged that the latest incident should not derail Qatar’s diplomatic efforts toward a peaceful settlement.

“The Government of Ghana appeals that this condemnable incident is not allowed to derail Qatar’s effort in negotiating a peaceful diplomatic resolution of the conflict,” the statement read.

The ministry called on all parties to exercise restraint and recommit to dialogue as the only viable path to sustainable peace in the Middle East.
