The Director of Communications at the Presidency has described as reckless and irresponsible, allegations by the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Tamale South Haruna Iddrisu, that President Akufo-Addo is behind the petition by some workers of the Electoral Commission, demanding the impeachment of the Chairperson Charlotte Osei. According to Eugene Arhin, the allegations are baseless because the Minority leader has not been able to produced a single shred of evidence to back the claim.

Haruna Iddrisu at a news conference organized by the National Democratic Congress [NDC] on Thursday, said the President is behind the petition filed by some workers of the Electoral Commission asking for the impeachment of the EC chair. The petitioners among others alleged fraud and corruption on the part of Charlotte Osei.

At the news conference, Mr. Iddrisu said NDC will resist the “blackmail witch-hunting” of the head of the election management body who was appointed by the past Mahama administration.

Commenting on the allegation on JoyFM, Mr. Arhin noted the action by the opposition NDC is rather an attempt to disrupt the governments' plans at putting Ghana back on a path of progress, economic recovery and improved standards of living. He stressed the NDC posture amounted to cheap and petty politicking.
