A former Presidential staffer in the John Mahama administration, Dr. Clement Apaak, has revealed that 43 new armoured vehicles ordered by the previous government days before leaving office, was upon the demand of the Akufo-Addo government.

Questions have been raised about why the Mahama administration would place such an order, at time when it was leaving power.

Documents sighted by Citi FM indicate, a contract was on the 3rd of January, 2017, to Amalgamated Security Services LTD for the purchase of the vehicles for the Presidency.

The delivery of the cars is however in limbo following a recent moratorium placed on the purchase of new vehicles in March 2017 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo–Addo.

According to reports the said vehicles have already been purchased and are currently in Dubai. There are fears government could pay a judgement debt if it cancels the contract.

Speaking on Citi FM’s news analysis programme, The Big Issue on June 3, Dr. Apaak insisted that the past administration acted on the command of the Akuffo Addo led administration.

“It’s indeed true that the said vehicles were ordered, but the request was made to our side during the transition. So, if indeed the vehicles have been procured, I can say on authority that it was part of the request which was made by the incoming government,”

The former presidential staffer indicated the NDC would be obliged to release documentary evidence if the current administration points accusing fingers because they know there was “nothing fishy” in the deal.
