Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bimbilla Constituency in the Northern Region, Dominic Nitiwul says he is shocked by the manner of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) victory over the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the just ended general elections.

The opposition NPP swept to victory in last Wednesday's presidential and parliamentary elections winning comfortably in both.

Their presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo polled 53.85 percent of the total valid votes cast to defeat President John Dramani Mahama who had 44.40 percent,

In real terms, Mr Akufo-Addo had over one million votes more than Mr Mahama and the party also snatched about 50 parliamnetary seats from the NDC leading to a total of over 170 seats in the 275-member house.

This resounding victory, according to Mr Nitiwul, the Deputy Minority Leaderr in the current parliament , is quite surprsing.

"Though I knew Nana Addo will win the election, I'm very shocked by the margin of win".

Speaking on Asempa FM's Ekosii on Monday, he suggested that the NDC lost the election because of corruption and arrogance with power.

Considering what has happened to them, we will not make the same mistakes as them.

"We know what happened to NDC can happen to us next time so we'll work. We'll deliver on all our promises to the people. We know what we promised and the expectations of the people", he stated.
