The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Upper West Denkyira in the Central region, Daniel Appianing has denied reports that he has been suspended from his position.

Mr Appianing was suspended following comments he made over the lynching of army captain, Maxwell Adam Mahama who was leading detachment troops in the area at Denkyira Obuasi, a town in his district.

He had granted media interviews to the effect that Captain Mahama and his troop were in the area to protect illegal small scale miners flouting a nationwide ban on their activities.

His comments described by many as insensitive is said to have incensed President Nana Akufo-Addo who directed Local Government Minister, Hajia Alima Mahama to suspend him.

A letter to this effect which also asked the DCE to hand over to the Deputy Central Regional Minister, Thomas Adjei Baffoe was dispatched on Thursday.

But according to Mr Appianing, he was yet to receive any communication from President Akufo-Addo and was still at post.

In an interview with Starr FM, he said, “I have never been happy in my life than today. I’m still in my office. I have not received official notification. I have heard it on social media and radio.

He wondered why the powers that be would take such a decision without hearing his side first.

“Ever since this incident happened nobody has called to find out my side of the story. So if they are suspending me and it will be on radio without communicating to me that is their problem", he stated.
