Ghanaians will enjoy my second term in office because all the tough decisions have been taken this first term, President John Mahama has assured.

While President Mahama has touted his term as a success considering the numerous infrastructure projects he has undertaken, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described his first term as  failure saying another term  at would bring untold hardship onto Ghanaians.

Indeed, the vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia  at a lecture on the state of Ghana's economy at the National Theatre in September discounted President Mahama's claims fo building a solid foundation for Ghana's future development saying he is "building a foundation of straw and pretending it is concrete.”

But speaking at a rally at Anyinam in the Atiwa Constituency as part of his campaign tour of the Eastern Region on Wednesday, President Mahama maintained that he had taken all the tough decisions in his first term which had resulted in “a solid foundation” for “a period of prosperity” in his second term.

According to him, “…In governance, there is always a difficult stage where tough decisions have to be taken and I admit in my first four years I’ve had to take some tough decisions.

Asking for a second term, President Mahama said, “I’ve taken these decisions in the interest of the nation. It’s like putting up a building. After laying the foundation, then someone comes that allow him to put the structure on it. It is simply not possible; we can’t allow that to happen. Does this make sense to you? It doesn’t make sense.”

“…This is because we all worked together to build this solid foundation, digging and everything. All the international financial institutions say from 2017 is a period of prosperity for Ghana. This means the difficult part of the work has been done. I don’t demand any tough decisions from Ghanaians anymore”, he added.
