President Akufo-Addo has advised political leaders in Togo to put the interest of the country above their parochial interests.

Akufo-Addo said all political factions must be committed to finding a lasting solution to the political crisis in the country.

Speaking at the introductory session of finding a peaceful solution to the political crisis in Togo on Monday, February 19, President Akufo-Addo said the Government and the opposition parties must note that the political future of Togo lies in their own hands.

"...it is important that it is the Togolese themselves not any outside forces that will determine the future of your country, it is important for all of us to recognize that the destiny of the country is in our own hands and therefore whatever emerges out of this dialogue represent the solution of the Togo people.."

The 14 opposition coalition parties are expected to present their already drafted resolutions to the Akufo-Addo led dialogue team, among the resolutions is the restoration of the 1992 Constitution which places a time limit on the Presidency.

They also wish the implementation of the Constitution should prevent Faure Gnassingbé from contesting in the 2020 and 2025 elections.
