Suspended General Secretary of the Peoples National Convention, Atik Mohammed, says the Financial Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Police should extend a hand to the Economic and Organized Crime Office, to assist in ongoing investigations into the alleged Ghc 98 million contracts awarded to eleven companies belonging to the Jospong Group of Companies.

According to investigations conducted by JoyFm’s Manasseh Azure Awuni, Zoomlion, a company owned by Joseph Siaw Agyepong, was awarded the same contract, though no work was being done most of the assemblies.

He said companies all the companies were sole sourced and despite the inflated contract, the job was not carried out in most of the assemblies, mostly  financially handicapped.

Speaking on Peace Fm’s breakfast show, Atik Mohammed, who was recently suspended by his party, said the case bothers on financial crime and it’s only fair EOCO is invited to assist in the investigations.

He however said the call is not to suggest the CID are unable to handle the matter but believes it will facilitate speedy investigations into the matter.

“We should be seen fighting corruption and other security agencies be invited to help conduct a similar exercise into the matter,” he said.

A report by the Auditor General for 2015 said more than two million cedis was also awarded to Mr. Agyepong though he did not carry out any work.

Meanwhile, the Local Government Ministry has ordered for the contract to be cancelled and instructed the assemblies to carry out the fumigation themselves.
