Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for ignoring earlier warnings raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the Electoral Commission (EC).
His remarks were made in light of the EC’s recent announcement regarding a re-run of elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.
In a Facebook post dated Wednesday, July 9, Dr. Boamah called for a united effort to restore integrity to Ghana’s electoral system.

“Let’s collaborate to repair the flawed Electoral Commission and safeguard Ghana’s democracy!” he stated, expressing concern over what he characterized as increasing irregularities and administrative issues within the EC’s operations.
He further noted that the NDC has consistently voiced concerns regarding the EC’s readiness and conduct in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections, which the NPP has dismissed.
“The NPP ought to have heeded our warnings when we in the NDC raised multiple red flags about the Electoral Commission of Ghana in anticipation of Elections 2024,” Dr. Boamah remarked.
Despite his criticisms, Dr. Boamah indicated that there remains a chance for corrective measures. “It’s not too late…” he emphasized, advocating for bipartisan collaboration to restore public trust in Ghana’s democratic institutions.
His comments arise amidst a renewed discussion on electoral transparency and the credibility of the EC’s procedures.
