National Chairman of the NDC, Mr. Kofi Portuphy says the GHC10,000 fine slapped on each member of the Montie 3 needs to be paid but the party is struggling to raise the sum especially when it must be honoured by close of day Thursday.

Mr. Portuphy rendered:“Yes they have offended; they’ve showed remorse and apologized and their lawyers have pleaded. In this hard time that people go through looking for money, in such a time we have been told to pay this fine within 24 hours. I mean where have we found it like that in this country? The punishment is too harsh.”

Salifu Maase a.k.a. Mugabe looked on while political commentators Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn on his show 'Pampaso' on June 29, issued death threats to judges of the supreme court over their call for NHIS registrants on the voters register to be deleted and allowed to re-register with different forms of national identity. The two felt the apex court justices were meddling in the affairs of the Electoral Commission hence the threats.

Such threats coming on the eve of the murder of supreme court judges in 1982 during the Provisional National Defence Council era led to the 3 being found in contempt of the court and subsequently their imprisonment.

The Montie 3 were in addition to the 4 months imprisonment terms, charged to pay a fine of GHC10,000 each by Thursday, July 28, or incur extra months in prison. Frequency owner Harry Zakour and the station's directors were also fine GHC30,000 respectively to be paid on Thursday or face an undisclosed jail term.

Mr. Kofi Portuphy made the party's challenge known on Kasapa FM.
