Reports reaching primenewsghana indicates the residence of former deputy Power Minister John Jinapor’s has been raided by personnel from the Criminal Investigations Department of the Police service and National Security.

The raid which occurred Friday morning is believed to be in connection with the $510 million Ameri power deal. Two of the security personnel are said to have been armed with AK 47 assault rifles.

Mr Jinapor, the MP for Yapei Kusawgu, was on his way to Parliament when he was intercepted, restrained and held for about two hours.

This is the third raid carried out in the homes of former public officials related to the Ameri deal. The residences of Former Minister for Power, Kwabena Donkor, and a former technical adviser for the Power Ministry were searched over the week.

The Ameri power deal has been a subject of controversy from inception. The NPP, which formed the Minority in parliament during the approval of the deal in 2015 say the $510million agreement is over-bloated by as much as $150 million. They contend the country has been shortchanged by AMERI, because the contractor, PPR, actually built and financed the plant at a cost of $360 million, yet AMERI, which secured the deal, forwarded a bill of $510 million in the agreement.

Reports say the Mahama administration paid in excess of $150m to Ameri before leaving office, but this has been denied by officials of the former administration.

The Minority in Parliament has condemned the raids alleging that the move is carefully engineered by the Akufo-Addo administration to silence opposition critics.
