The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Friday, October 10, 2025, conducted balloting for its presidential primary slated for January 31, 2026.
At the end of the balloting held at the party's headquarters in Accra, Kennedy Agyapong picked the first slot, followed by Bryan Acheampong with the second slot.
Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia picked the 3rd position, while Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyepong are 4th and 5th, respectively, on the ballot paper.
The order of balloting is as follows:
- Kennedy Agyapong
- Bryan Acheampong
- Dr Mahamudu Bawumia
- Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum
- Kwabena Agyepong
Speaking shortly after the draw, spokesperson for the Ken Agyapong campaign team, Kwasi Kwarteng, said the number one slot symbolises victory for their candidate.
“It was just five candidates. It was an open process, and the candidates had representatives who picked their own numbers,” Mr Kwarteng explained.
“In terms of the people, the marketing, and the visibility of the ballots, being number one gives us a lot of advantage.”
He said the campaign team was confident that their message of change and renewal continued to resonate strongly with delegates across the country.
“From day one, we have always maintained that our campaign is the right one,” he said.
“We are going to tell delegates the core message of the party and what Ken has always maintained, that even in the spirit of revival, we need a new face. Kennedy is bringing three things: jobs, jobs, and more jobs. That’s the most important.”
Mr Kwarteng, however, clarified that while the team was delighted with the outcome, their confidence did not depend solely on the number they picked.
“We are not fixated on any number. “But even after the balloting, number one gives us another advantage in terms of marketing, PR, and visibility on the ballot. These are legitimate factors we can acknowledge.”
