President John Mahama has assigned additional responsibilities to Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and Lands and Natural Resources Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah to fill the leadership vacuum at the Ministries of Defence and Environment.

This comes in the wake of the tragic death of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed in a military helicopter crash.

The two were among eight people who died in the crash involving a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

Dr. Ato Forson will temporarily oversee the Defence Ministry, while Mr. Buah will take charge of the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.
