The Ministry of Health has disbursed GHS 462 million to cover six months’ worth of training allowances for 120,000 nursing students across the country, fulfilling a key campaign promise by President John Dramani Mahama.
In a press release, the Ministry said the payment is part of a broader government initiative to provide financial support to students in nurses training colleges.
Payments began on Thursday and will continue through next Friday.
“This payment, which covers a six-month period, forms part of a broader initiative by the government to provide financial support to students in nurses training colleges,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry described the move as a significant step toward improving the welfare of nursing trainees and sustaining the motivation of future health professionals.
Deputy Director and spokesperson to the ministry Tony Goodman expressed appreciation to President Mahama and stakeholders for ensuring the timely release and distribution of the funds.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to working with nursing institutions to ensure the continued delivery of quality healthcare education nationwide.
