President John Mahama is upbeat despite a seeming commanding lead taken by his opponent, Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the 2016 presidential elections, the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) campaign spokesperson, Joyce Bawa Mogtari has stated.

The NPP's presidential candidate has been widely reported to have taken a commanding lead in the polls as results trickle in from the 274 constituencies which voted on election day with the polls in Jaman North postponed to Thursday, December 8.

But speaking in an interview with Citi FM on around midnight, Thursday, Madam Mogtari said it was still too early for President Mahama to get disturbed by the supposed lead for his opponent.

"The president remains upbeat with the knowledge that the EC is actually doing its job and eventually we'll have the full complement of the results".

According to her, "in 2012 similar things happened. All these results were being bandied but eventually when the EC released the results, we all know what happened".

She urged the party's supporters to remain calm as the await certified results from the Electoral Commission (EC).
