President John Dramani Mahama on Monday met with the Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Li Qiang, in Beijing, to strengthen bilateral relations and explore new areas of cooperation between the two nations.

The meeting focused on deepening Ghana–China strategic ties, with discussions centred on trade, investment, and the government’s flagship 24-hour economy initiative. President Mahama acknowledged China’s longstanding support for Ghana through investments, grants, and infrastructure development.

He welcomed China’s interest in partnering with Ghana to advance the 24-hour economy agenda, particularly through agricultural cooperation aimed at boosting agro-processing and value addition.

Both leaders also addressed concerns about illegal small-scale mining activities, agreeing to collaborate closely in implementing preventive policies and regulatory frameworks to curb the menace.

“It was a fruitful bilateral meeting, and I look forward to enhanced diplomatic, trade, investment, and cooperation between our countries,” President Mahama said. “Ghana is the gateway to Africa, and we look forward to welcoming more Chinese tourists and investors.”
