President John Mahama's explanation for releasing the infamous Montie three does not make sense, a Political Science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr Richard Amoako Baah has stated.

President Mahama explaining the rationale behind his decision on Metro TV's Good Evening Ghana Tuesday, President Mahama said, "even before they were called before the court they had show remorse, apologised and retracted what they said", adding that "I don't know what benefit it would have been to anybody [for them to serve] the three extra months"their release “the general consensus was that four months was quite a harsh punishment to impose for that kind of crime" and would have done same even if the trio were not NDC members

Their release was in the interest of the general public since “the general consensus was that four months was quite a harsh punishment to impose for that kind of crime" and would have done same even if the trio were not NDC members, the president told the show host Paul Adom Otchere.

But speaking on Atinka FM’s Midday news Wednesday, Dr Amoako Baah said the release of the Montie three was never in the interest of the public.

“It is not true, the president should stop saying that what he did is in the public interest because the Montie guys have never shown any sign of remorse, ” he said, adding that if that was the case then the President should release all prisoners since most of them have in way or the other shown remorse for their deeds.

According to Dr. Amoako Baah, the interest of Ghana’s is to make the court more secure and respected as well as more independent.Â
