President Mahama has lauded the late Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey for helping mantain peace in Ghana during turbulent times.

Signing the book of condolence for the late NPP Chairman at his residence, the President expressed the regret of the government and the people of Ghana for the passing of Jake Obetsebi Lamptey.

President Mahama said: “We all know the role he played in our democratic process from 1992 to date. He served as the chairman of the NPP and even in the most turbulent times when adversarial competitiveness was at its height, people like Jake maintained the calm and working together, we’ve always been able to calm the waters and that is part of what has created Ghana as a model of democracy in Africa.

“And so his passing is only fitting that as president of the Republic of Ghana I come to mourn with the family and extend the support of the government in this difficult time to help the family with any arrangement”.

Obetsebi-Lamptey, who led the NPP into power in 2000, died aged 70. The former Minister of Tourism died in London following a protracted illness.
