President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in the new Independent Fiscal Council to strengthen Ghana's economy and restore public financial discipline.
Established under the Public Financial Management (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1136), the five-member independent body is mandated to scrutinise government spending, monitor debt sustainability, and ensure transparency in public resource management.
"Fiscal responsibility must not be regarded merely as a statutory requirement; it is a moral obligation to present and future generations," President Mahama stated, urging the Council to act based on evidence and the national interest, free from political bias.
