President John Mahama has announced that the government will officially launch the 24-hour Economy policy in July, specifically on the Republic Day.

He disclosed this on Wednesday during a multi-sectoral Engagement on the implementation of the 24 hour Economy at the Presidency.

“This date holds special significance as we begin this bold national agenda,” he said.

He noted that the 24-hour final policy draft, prepared by Presidential Advisor, Mr. Goosie Tanoh, has been thoroughly reviewed.

“What we have before us now moves beyond vision to concrete action,” Mahama stated, adding that “this framework will completely restructure our production systems from the ground up.”

The President emphasized that the Volta Lake Economic Corridor will be central to the plan.

“We’re going to transform our beautiful Volta Lake into more than just a power source,” he explained.

According to him, the project will develop two million hectares of lakeside land, revive fisheries, and establish new industrial parks serving multiple markets.

On financial support, Mahama said that the Development Bank Ghana and Venture Capital Trust Fund are prepared to increase funding.

“SMEs in priority sectors like agro-processing, pharmaceuticals and digital services will receive particular attention,” he noted.

He stated that infrastructure development will be handled by the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund, explaining that Industrial parks and logistics hubs will be built across the country while also introducing the Aspire24 training initiative.

“Our youth will receive specific preparation for shift work and digital roles,” he added.

The President stressed that implementation would be locally-driven. “This isn’t about Accra calling all the shots,” he remarked, explaining that each district would have its own 24-Hour Economy Task Force to adapt the program to local conditions.

Mahama announced that the policy draft would be made public on Tuesday, 3rd June, 2025 for consultation.

“All stakeholders should review the document and share their input,” he urged.

He revealed that the government is working to establish the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat as a statutory body to ensure the continuity of the program.

He said that the policy represents a shared commitment to growth, quality jobs, and strong local economies.

“Together, we’re building a Ghana where opportunities are always available,” he concluded
