The Minority group in Parliament has condemned government for engaging in what they describe as "excessive borrowing" in the first 100 days after taking office.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) during campaingning for the 2016 elections chastised the Mahama-led administration for what its management of the economy saying it was over-borrowing to spend on projects whose costs had been inflated and had little value for money.

But according to the Minority, the Nana Akufo-Addo government has borrowed over three billion United States dollars (US$3b) as at now which is equivalent to about 13.5 billion Ghana Cedis (GHC13.5b) which translates into an average borrowing of 135 million Ghana Cedis per day since the government took office.

This development, the Minority maintained was not in consonance with the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) promise not to borrow during their tenure confirming that "the current government used deception and inflated promises to get to office".

"NPP has added another record in borrowing. In less than 100 days of being in office, the NPP has exceeded this notorious feat and deception again. NPP now holds another new record in our history as the Party that has borrowed almost over three billion United States Dollars (US$3.0 billion) within its 100 days in office. This is equivalent to about Ghs 13.5 billion in 100 days (average Ghs 135 million a day) or in other words, every Ghanaians owes additional just in 100 days of NPP Ghs 500 (Ghs 13,500,000,000÷27,000,000=Ghs 500)", the Minority said in statement released on Tuesday in response to the first 100 days of the Akufo-Addo government in office.
