The NDC Minority in Parliament say they will resist any attempts by government to intimidate its members under the pretext of investigating corrupt deals under their regime.

In a statement signed by its leader Haruna Iddrisu, the minority condemned the “dawn” raid of the home of former Power Minister Dr. Kwabena Donkor over the controversial Ameri power plant deal. Security officers on Monday went to the home of Dr. Donkor and took away his laptop as part of investigations into the matter.

“We shall resist with all the force at our disposal,” Mr. Iddrisu said in a statement.

Mr. Iddrisu said the claim that a warrant was procured from the lower court which empowered the security officers to search his house, offers no defense in what they described as a “dastardly” act.

He said the raid had nothing to do with the Ameri deal because government had said all documents covering the deal are in their possession, so what else did they go to his home to look for?

The group says it will officially inform Parliament of the treatment meted out to a sitting MP who is fully covered by privileges for such harassment to be avoided.

In a related development, the technical advisor to the Energy Minister who supervised the deal Francis Dzata, whose home was also raided on Tuesday and laptop and mobile phone taken, said he has nothing to hide.

“I don’t know why a technocrat like me should be subjected to this because I have sacrificed a lot for this deal to happen,” he said.

There are reports the majority will abrogate the deal following a thorough review.
