The Members of Parliament (MP) who held the "Bloody widow" placards could go unpunished as tapes from the Public Affairs Directorate are not clear enough to identify the specific people involved in the act.

The Minority in Parliament on February 5, 2019, during the swearing-in of Lydia Alhassan as MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon, held placards with the inscription "Bloody widow".

These acts have been condemned by several groups and the MPs involved in the act were cited for contempt for displaying the placards.

The Speaker earlier this month had directed the minority MPs who displayed the placards be identified and referred to the Privileges committee after minority leadership refused to apologize for the act.

Deputy Majority leader Adwoa Sarfoa, however, says the identification has been a challenge.Deputy Majority leader Adwoa Sarfoa

"Information from the Clerk's office is that they have the video but the identification of the specific members has been a challenge and the case has been presented to the first deputy speaker."

"I want to assure members of the House that leadership will take the matter up if the tapes from Parliament are not clear enough, we will contact media houses who were present on that day for the tapes".

The Ayawaso by-election on January 31, 2019, was met with violence at Bawaleshie which forced the NDC to pull out of the race.

Despite their actions, the elections were held with Lydia Alhassan emerging winner.

The NDC feeling hard done by the polls boycotted her swearing-in ceremony and displayed placards with the inscription "Bloody widow".

Lydia Alhassan is the wife of late MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko.
