The Managing Editor of Al-Hajj Newspaper, Alhaji Idrissu Bature has stated that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will not run for a second term in office.

Just three months into his administration, some have wondered whether President Akufo-Addo will seek a second term as Ghana's leader considering that he will be 76 years old in 2020 when the next presidential election is expected to take place.

The early talk of presidential candidates for the 2020 elections has been fueled by former President John Mahama's decision to take a break from local politics after his defeat in the 2016 elections.

This has brought up discussions on who will be contesting for the biggest political parties, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and what the presidential ballot will look like come 2020.

But according to Alhaji Bature, President Akufo-Addo, considering the enormous developmental projects and achievements of former President Mahama, is contemplating not contesting in 2020.

"With his first three months in office, Nana Addo has realised how daunting the job is and he knows if elections were to be held today, he would lose so he would like to save face in 2020".

Speaking on Adom TV's Badwam on Tuesday, Alhaji Bature said he had it on authority that President Akufo-Addo will not contest in 2020.

"Mark my words, Nana Addo will not run again in 2020", he stated.
