The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has arrested Alfred Ababio Kumi, popularly known as Adenta Kumi, a former NPP parliamentary aspirant for Adenta.

He was picked up at dawn from his residence.

This was disclosed by the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, on Friday morning, who criticized the arrest.

''About 3 hours ago, Alfred Ababio Kumi popularly known as Adenta Kumi was picked up at his residence by 8 armed men believed to be officers of the National Intelligence Bureau. 6 of the AK-47-wielding men were in masks.''

"These rambo style actions by government continue to raise concerns that bother on free speech and good governance."

The arrest comes days after Adenta Kumi petitioned President John Mahama to dissolve the committee probing Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

Kumi had recently alleged that two members of the five-member committee were seen dining with a lawyer representing one of the petitioners, claims he said compromised the integrity of the proceedings.

The committee, chaired by Justice Gabriel Pwamang, began its hearings on 15 May behind closed doors. Kumi submitted his petition to the presidency on 19 May, urging swift action to protect the credibility of the constitutional process.
