The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed claims by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that President Mahama bribed Bugri Naabu, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman in the Northern Region, with GHC3.3 million.

In a press conference held in Accra on Tuesday, Mustapha Hamid, the spokesperson of Nana Akufo-Addo, accused President John Mahama and his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, of trying to bribe Bugri Naabu to betray Akufo-Addo.

The NPP presented documents which the party said proved that Ibrahim Mahama, the president's brother, gave Bugri Naabu GHC500,000 cash and a brand new Mistubishi V6 vehicle to portray Akufo-Addo as someone who hates Northerners.

Mustapha Hamid said President Mahama and his team had "not relented in their evil ways and means to use our own people to work against the NPP.”

But in a reaction on Accra-based Asempa FM,  the national organiser of the NDC, Kofi Adams, described the NPP’s allegations as baseless and unfounded.

“We have one week to an election and so the NPP as a means of creating tension, have decided to hold an unnecessary press conference just to tarnish the image of our President. They have no evidence because it is just a political gimmick,” he said.
