The outgoing government has denied allegations that it is awarding last-gasp contracts in the public sector before bowing out.

The Head of the Nana Akufo-Addo transition team Yaw Osafo Marfo has raised concerns over some late recruitment into the various security agencies and other sectors by the outgoing government.

He has also berated efforts by the government to regularise the appointment of some individuals into the public service, following the defeat of the National Democratic Congress in last week’s polls.

However, the spokesperson for the government’s transition team, Hanna Tetteh, has rubbished such claims.

“I am not aware of any contracts being awarded, I am not aware of the sale of government properties,” the foreign affairs minister told the media.

According to her, she is privy to the fact that there is an ongoing advertisement in national newspapers announcing the opening of recruitment for the Ghana Armed Forces.

She stressed that it was unlikely that “the recruitment exercise will be concluded before January 7, in which case the incoming administration will have the responsibility and have the oversight to see how the exercise is concluded.”

She added: “The question really is to make sure that whatever exercise takes place, it takes place in a transparent manner and that if there are any concerns that the transition team wishes to raise, one would hope that it will be addressed.”
