The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Tamale Central, Prof. Alidu Mahama Seidu, has officially filed his nomination with the Electoral Commission ahead of the by-election set for Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
Prof. Seidu earned the slot after a resounding win in the party’s primaries at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on September 6, where he polled 840 votes out of 1,511.
His closest contender, Abdul Hannan Gundado, secured 536 votes.
According to reports, candidates from the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) and the People’s National Congress (PNC) have also picked up forms to enter the contest, but have yet to submit them.
The Electoral Commission has set Wednesday, September 10, as the deadline for nominations.
The by-election follows the tragic death of sitting MP Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who lost his life in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
